~The Wings~
The wings of the quickbuild come just as you see them. Whew! All that is left is one skin, mounting the ailerons, flaps, pitot tube. If one has built the wings of an RV, one can really appreciate the quality of the workmanship, and the fact that one does not have to touch proseal!
I had my fuel caps engraved by Steve Davis, the Panel Pilot. This is a much nicer installation than the big round stickers that go around the caps. (see my panel page for the panel work he does)
This is the aileron bellcrank. It is built the same way that you bulid the elevator bellcrank.
.
Here the bellcrank is installed in the wing. The bellcrank is fixed in its neutral position with the long drill bit you see here. This is so that when you cut your control tubes, they are cut to the proper length. Also visible is some clear tubing that I installed for running wires. The wing comes with these wimply little 1/2" holes with bushing snapped into them. Hardly enough room for wire for lights and such, not to mention a pain to thread through. I opened the holes up with a Unibit attached to an extender, so that I could reach the holes under the already riveted skin.
The nice thing about friends who build RV's is that they can do work for you. Here Larry Olson is fixing his aileron jigs to the wing. You are supposed to build these from the crate the wings came in, but since Larry built his before me, I didn't waste my time!
Initial drilling of the remaining wing skin. There are about 400 holes here...man is that alot of holes..I really feel for the guys who built their whole kit. I spent 3 hours just deburring the holes that I created here (and the other wing, too).
Theses braces had to be fabricated out of some 3/16" alluminum. This stuff gets really strong when it is this thick. (and hard to cut). These will attach the leading edge of the wing to the fuselage.
